Vintage Colonial Candlewick Butterfly Embroidery in Embroidery Hoop with Lace, Perfect for Wall Decor

Framed in a vintage plastic embroidery hoop, this piece of art measures 6” in diameter. The embroidery hoop is dark brown and the butterfly is rendered in white on a beige muslin background. The background muslin appears to have weathered and become darker with age, giving it a distinctly vintage feel. Please note this coloration in the pictures. The hoop is encircled with white lace and has a cream bow at the top.

This lovely butterfly piece is a traditional Colonial Candlewick, or knotted embroidery. Candlewicking, or candlewick is a form of whitework embroidery that traditionally uses an unbleached cotton thread on a piece of unbleached muslin. It gets its name from the nature of the soft spun cotton thread, which was braided then used to form the wick for candles. Motifs are created using a variety of traditional embroidery stitches as well as a tufted stitch. Subject matter is usually taken from nature—flowers, insects, pine trees, etc.

The staging materials are not included in the listing.
