Antique Framed and Matted Engraving of Johannisberg by JMW Turner, Engraved by Pellissier & Allen October 1900 London, Heirloom Decor
This gorgeous black and white engraving of sailing ships at sea is preserved behind glass. JMW Turner was known for showcasing the interplay between dark and light, and that is expressed eloquently in this artwork. There are some signs of aging starting show at the edges of the paper, as pictured. The engraving has a Certificate on the back detailing the provenance of the artwork. The engraving is titled Johannisberg and indicates under the title that it was made from the drawing in the possession of Rev. F.Fawkes Farnley. In the upper right hand corner, it states Published Oct. 1900 by George Allen Ruskin House, London. The artist's signature is in the lower left and the engraver's signatures are in the lower right. The artwork is in a wooden frame with linen matting. There are a few small areas of wear on the frame, as pictured. Overall, this is in very good condition considering the age of the piece. Measures 17 3/4" W x 14 5/8" H.
